# Questions to Ask a Tuition Centre Before You Sign Up

Updated 2026-10-11 · Tuition Centres East

Short answer: Ask about class size, the term fee and what it covers, whether lessons follow the current PSLE format (SEAB revised Maths and Science for 2026), who teaches the class, whether there is a trial lesson, how missed lessons are made up, how progress is reported, and the notice needed to stop.

## Eight questions

- How many pupils are in the class, and are they all the same level? A mixed P4 to P6 class moves at nobody’s pace.

- What is the term fee, and what does it include? Materials, registration, deposits and holiday programmes are often separate.

- Do lessons follow the current PSLE format? SEAB lists Mathematics and Science as revised for the 2026 examination (SEAB). A centre should know what changed.

- Who teaches the class? The same teacher every week, or a rota?

- Is there a trial lesson? And is it a normal class or a special one?

- What happens when my child misses a lesson? Make-up class, recording, or nothing.

- How is progress reported? Marked work, test results, a note to parents.

- How much notice is needed to stop? Some centres ask for a full term.

## Match the centre to the subject

Most children who need help need it in one or two subjects, not all four. A centre whose strength is composition is a different choice from one built around maths problem sums. The labels on this directory come from each centre’s own name and Google category, so use them to shortlist, then ask.

## A centre or a home tutor?

A centre gives a class and a fixed timetable; a home tutor gives one-to-one attention at a time that suits you. See [tuition centre or home tuition](/guide/tuition-centre-or-home-tuition/).

## More questions

Should a tuition centre offer a trial lesson? +
Many do. A trial lesson is the cheapest way to see the class size, the teaching and whether your child is comfortable before paying a term fee. What is a reasonable class size? +
There is no official standard. Ask the number and decide against what your child needs: a child who goes quiet in groups may do better in a small class or with a home tutor. [Get matchedPrimary and PSLE14 tuition centres listed](/service/primary/)
